Local SEO Guide: Win the “Near Me” Searches

Why local search is a different job

Someone typing “electrician Kadıköy” is not researching; they have a problem and want it fixed today. That is why conversion per visitor in local search sits far above general queries. Google’s map pack takes roughly 44% of clicks, and getting into those three boxes is worth much more than fourth place.

The good news: local competition is not as brutal as national. The bad news: your rivals are three firms in the same district, and they are reading this too.

Google Business Profile: the foundation

The profile is the backbone of local SEO, and most businesses fill it in once and forget it. Three things matter.

The right primary category. “Plumber” and “Plumbing Service” return different results. Choose based on what your customer types, not on what your competitors picked.

Service list and price range. Every empty field tells Google it does not know enough about this business.

Regular updates. A post, a new photo or corrected opening hours every week. Signals that the profile is alive feed directly into ranking.

District and service pages

One “Our Services” page will not put you first across ten districts. Each service × area combination needs its own page: “plumbing Ümraniye”, “boiler service Ataşehir”.

But be careful: if you produce copies of the same text with the district name swapped, Google sees it and ranks none of them. The page has to carry real content — notes from jobs you did in that area, problems specific to the building stock there, how long it takes you to get there. Five genuine pages beat fifty clones.

Review strategy

Review count is the most visible differentiator in map ranking. A profile with 50 reviews almost always beats one with 5.

What works: send the review link over WhatsApp the moment the job ends, while the customer is still pleased. Reminding them a week later does not work. Do not be shy about asking; most satisfied customers simply never think of it.

Rather than trying to delete a negative review, answer it. A calm reply that offers a fix builds more trust than ten positive comments.

The technical ground

However good the profile is, if the person who clicks lands on a slow page they bounce, and Google measures that. Three things are non-negotiable: LocalBusiness schema markup, sub-three-second loading on mobile, and a tappable call button above the fold.

One detail is skipped constantly: your address, phone number and business name must be written character for character identically across the site, the profile and directories. Even “St.” versus “Street” weakens the match.

How long it takes

First movement on local terms usually shows in 6–10 weeks. That is slow next to advertising — but when you stop paying for ads the traffic stops, whereas the rank you earn here stays yours.

A realistic timeline: month one builds the profile and page structure, month two starts accumulating reviews, month three moves the ranking. Businesses that cannot sit through that calendar usually quit in month two, having done the hardest part for nothing.
